About Bitstream

Bitstream (formerly Spark Multimedia Productions) was founded in its present form in October 1998 by Kristan Dyson and Paul Wolfenden, with the sole aim of providing the world with quality freeware. Bitstream was formerly Sparkfilm, founded in 1996 by Kristan Dyson, producing videos for various projects. Sparkfilm is now a part of Bitstream, and is still run solely by Kris.

We are dedicated to providing you, the user, with quality programs that you will find great uses for. We are not doing this for anyone else other than you. That is why we can shape our software to do exactly what you want. If you ask for something, and we agree with it, then you can be assured it will make an appearance in a later program version.

The future of Bitstream lies in the inevitable time when we become more commercial. We work so hard on Bitstream and at the moment get nothing back for it at all. Therefore we are sooner or later going to have to face up to the fact that we cannot produce free software forever. However, we shall be remaining totally commited to the quality and value of our software, whether it is free or we just ask for a small charge. Our intentions at the moment are to continue with the freeware, and even after that we shall still be producing freeware so you can't ask for much more than that.

It should be noted that Paul Wolfenden who was the web designer has now left us to pursue other projects.  We wish him well!!

Would you like to join the Bitstream team?

We are currently looking for beta testers to help us in the final stages of our software development. All you will need to do is receive a pre-release beta of a new version of our software, give it a thorough test, and then send us back a report on its performance and any problems that you might encounter. If you are interested, please email us using our enquiry address, enquiries@bitstream.freeserve.co.uk.
