Problems With Installation

Installation of EyeBrowse is a simple operation, although unfortunately it is more complicated than it should be, due to the limitations of our current chosen methods of distribution. To install EyeBrowse (1.5+), simply run the executable after download, and extract to the temporary directory of your choice. When done run the program 'Setup.exe' in the directory you specified and follow the on screen instructions. When finished, you can safely delete the original download file and the setup files in your chosen temporary directory.

Before downloading and installing EyeBrowse, you should be sure that you are getting the correct download option. The options are explained on the download page. Basically, any user who wants to be sure that EyeBrowse will not be missing any files should download and use Option 1. It includes on more file than Option 2, the VB5 runtime file that computers need to run any program written in Visual Basic 5, like EyeBrowse. Only download Option 2 if you are absolutely sure that you have this file (if you have installed EB before and it worked, then you already have it) installed on your computer, in c:\windows\system.

We are aware that the size of the EyeBrowse is slightly bigger than most people would like, but we are bound by the properties of programming with Visual Basic. The complete setup program automatically made by a "Setup Application Wizard" originally made the setup program a massive 4.6Mb, and that destroyed the whole point of this program which was that it was small and easy to use.

After research into which files were required and which were not, we managed to get the setup down to 1.30 Mb with the necessary runtime file, msvbvm50.dll. However, as some files were left out, it may not work properly or at all on certain computers, if EyeBrowse is requesting a file, find it in the file archive.

The second option was compiled to only 470kb, made possible by the exclusion of the runtime file. This is an expectable size for a program such as EyeBrowse (especially version 1.5 and above). Ig you already have a copy of EyeBrowse however, upgrading it is even easier, as all versions have an 'update' function that will download only the required files automatically. Use this if you already have EyeBrowse 1.0a or 1.0b.
